From total novice to skilled archer
Our ten-week basic training courses are designed to teach adult beginners (18+) everything they need to become a competent archer.
Bows and arrows are provided. The start date is completely up to you – just book using the calendar. Friendly coaches will instruct you in:
- safety and etiquette on the archery range
- use of a longbow to competent standard
- the history of archers from medieval England to the present day – including a chance to try on some armour!
Courses are indoors during the winter and outdoors during the summer. Trainees can also join in the in-house archery club’s field shoots (friendly woodland competitions with fun targets) and, if you really enjoy the course, you have the option to join the club at the end and keep shooting with friendly archers of all ages – although there’s no pressure to.
Every training course ends with a bang, as we take you outdoors to shoot a volley of flaming arrows into the night sky – a truly impressive experience that you will remember forever. Our courses are the perfect gift for someone who loves history, the outdoors or simply trying new things!
We’re always happy for anyone to come along for a taster session to see if this is the new hobby you are looking for, so drop us a line to arrange a visit and we’ll show you around and let you try out a bow.
Courses cost £200 for Adults (18+ years old), which works out at £20 per week. All courses are run at our centre on Wednesday or Sunday evenings (your choice) from 6-8pm.
Junior and Parent/Guardian courses are also available.
We know you live busy lives, so if you miss a week for whatever reason, it will not count against your 10 weeks: you can learn at your own pace.
Our head coach is a medieval expert who has been hired by the Mary Rose Trust, National Trust and schools and groups around the country for his lively, funny and thoroughly interesting talks on medieval history.
